You've Been Gone Too Long
1957 Brother John Sellers
Brother John Sellers (1924-1999) was an African-American all-around folk entertainer, somewhat in the mold of Josh White and (to a lesser degree) Leadbelly, singing blues, folk, gospel, and bits of jazz. Born in Clarksdale, MS, he joined the mass migration to Chicago at the age of 11. In the mid-'50s, he recorded one of the earlier long-playing albums aimed at the folk audience, which included accompaniment by Sonny Terry and the original Count Basie rhythm section.
